My Adventure Towards Plastic-Free Toilet Paper

Home » My Adventure Towards Plastic-Free Toilet Paper

I don’t know about you, but I have always been a toilet paper snob. I’m not proud of it, but for as long as I can remember, I’ve been stocking up on the most luxurious rolls from Target or Walmart to ensure my butt feels fresh and clean after each visit to the bathroom.

But when it comes to toilet paper, there’s more than meets the eye—or butt, as it were. Most brands contain plastic that isn’t biodegradable and pollutes our landfills and oceans. While some companies must use recycled materials like cardboard instead of plastic, this isn’t enough! There’s no reason why we shouldn’t all be switching over to something better for our bodies (and the planet).

Discovering the plastic problem

You’re probably aware that plastic is a problem. It’s everywhere—in the ocean, our food chain, the air we breathe, and even our soil. But you may not know that plastic has become so ubiquitous that it’s even infiltrated Antarctica’s ice pack and deep sea creatures’ stomachs.

What does this mean for us? We already know that toxins like BPA can leach into food when heated or subjected to other chemical processes (think microwaveable meal trays). But now there’s evidence showing how these chemicals could end up inside the bodies of marine life after they’ve eaten tiny pieces of trash from their environment—and by extension, ending up inside ours too!

Admitting the problem and seeking solutions

Admitting you have a problem is the first step to finding a solution. It’s easier than you think and will make your future decisions much clearer.

The second step is learning about the impact of plastic on our environment. Plastic is not biodegradable, recyclable, or renewable—it is a petroleum product that takes hundreds of years to decompose as trash in landfills or oceans.

Only one piece has been recycled for every ten pieces of plastic ever made. The rest are piling up in landfills across the globe—eventually ending up in oceans and waterways where they contaminate wildlife and endanger human health through ingestion by fish and other animals who mistake them for food sources (or bait).

Giving up on store-bought toilet paper

So, why am I giving up on store-bought toilet paper?

Because it was expensive.

Let me explain: The average American uses 56 sheets of toilet paper per day. That’s about 20 pounds of paper every year for each person in the country! That much TP requires about three trees worth of wood fibre, which doesn’t include the packaging and shipping involved.

Looking at other alternatives

There are many alternatives if you’re interested in moving away from store-bought toilet paper. Some of these include bamboo cloths and flannels; others include toilet paper made from recycled paper or even leaves (though it’s probably best not to go this route if you don’t live in an area with trees). Take some time to look at the various options available and consider the cost of each option versus its environmental impact.

We’ve researched 6 Plastic-Free Toilet Paper for you to shop on…

Scott Essential Toilet Paper

Scott Essential Toilet Paper is a biodegradable toilet paper lasting up to three years. It comes in a recyclable container, and the tissue itself is made of 100% recycled paper.

This makes it an excellent option for anyone looking to switch to plastic-free toilet paper. Scott Essential Toilet Paper is also suitable for those concerned with the environment and their carbon footprint, as it contains no added dyes or chemicals—just what you need!

Uranus Wipes

Uranus Wipes use from bamboo and cotton, making them biodegradable and compostable. They’re also soft, strong, and durable. In addition to being hypoallergenic, fragrance-free, and preservative-free (i.e., no yucky chemicals that can irritate your skin), the wipes come in a box of 120 wipes, so you can stock up on them if you run out!

Georgia Pacific Envision

You might have seen Georgia Pacific Envision on the shelves at your local grocery store or pharmacy. It comes in a blue box with a green lid and a red “Flushable” stamp. The roll uses of three sheets of paper, each about 4 inches wide and 12 inches long.

It feels like ordinary toilet paper but thick and soft, like cotton balls. It’s light grey with no smell at all—just pure cleanliness! You can tear off one sheet at a time or two if you’re feeling extra thorough (and don’t mind the additional cost).

Because of how soft it is, it sticks to itself very well but doesn’t stick too much to anything else—no clumps! This means that you won’t have any problems flushing this toilet paper down your pipes either; throw it away after use without worrying about gumming up anything inside your plumbing system. Not only that, but this brand is also a plastic-free toilet paper.

Uline Toilet Paper

I also tried Uline’s recycled toilet paper. I was surprised at how soft it was, even though it is made of 100% recycled paper and not virgin pulp. It is hypoallergenic and chlorine-free, so I had no allergic reactions.

The toilet paper also comes in a bulk box of 48 rolls, which saves you money if you buy in bulk—a lot more affordable than purchasing single rolls at the store!

Boardwalk Standard

Boardwalk Standard is a good alternative. It’s made from 100% recycled paper, which can be flushed down the toilet or thrown into your compost pile without worry. It’s biodegradable and flushable, so no harmful chemicals are released into our water systems when you use it!

Some other benefits of this brand: it’s chlorine-free, soft on your hands, and absorbent (it won’t tear or break apart with use). Plus—and I’m sure you’ll be happy to hear this—if you’re concerned about cost, this product is more affordable than other options on the market today!

Are you looking for something super soft and luxurious to give your bum some severe pampering in luxury style? Try out Boardwalk Standard’s Soft & Strong variety! This version comes in 18 sizes ranging from 3 inches up to 27 inches (about 7cm – 70cm) in length.

Green Cane

Green Cane is made from 100% recycled paper and is chlorine free. It is 100% biodegradable and contains no chemicals that may harm the environment or your body. It is also not tested on animals, which I think is excellent!

Green Cane comes in soft and robust varieties, making it an excellent option for everyone’s needs. The soft version has 80 sheets per roll, while the powerful version has 160 sheets per roll—so if you’re looking for something with more durability or prolonged use, Green Cane strong might be your best bet!

It’s important to note that I prefer using soft toilet paper over strong because it feels better on my bottom (and I know many others who feel this way too). However, this brand would also be perfect for you if you prefer more substantial toilet paper since they offer both options!

Plastic-free toilet paper isn’t impossible.

The biggest misconception about plastic-free toilet paper is that it isn’t possible to get used to it. That’s not true! I started using plastic-free toilet paper a few years ago, and while it was an adjustment at first, I’ve found that it’s just as effective as regular (store-bought) TP. It may be less comfortable than some varieties of store-bought TP, but this can be improved by ensuring you have a good wad of cloth before sitting down on the throne.

Conclusion

We went through many different solutions here, and hopefully, you found one that works for you. It’s all about finding what works best for your needs and lifestyle. The important thing is that we can do our part by reducing our plastic consumption as much as possible.

We’ve also narrowed down a list of Biodegradable Toilet Paper available in the market. Check it out.
